When did you first know you were an artist?
I realized I really enjoyed painting in my early years in art class. I would often use up my lunch hour recess to paint in the art room.

My parents soon realized my affinity for painting and bought me an easel and some oil paints. I don't consider myself good at other types of art including drawing. A pencil on paper feels too flat for me. I feel the need to be able to mold a colorful substance into shape.

A Pair of Pears

A Pair of Pears:

" A Pair of Pears"

6" x 6" Acrylic on hardboard

2012 Kelly Dombrowski

I love painting fruit.  Fruit is so colorful and delicious!  These particular green pears are such a vibrant lovely color.  I try to set up original ways to view fruit when I paint.  Fruit with a view!

You are your worst enemy. Your mind is separated from your body. The mind constantly tries to destroy the body. It is a constant war. It is a trench warfare. One side tries to attack, but can't get the other side out of the dugouts. So the attacking side has little to no progress. The battles are held on the same ground over and over again, when the positions are slightly changed. Though there is no a clear cut winner, the war leaves scars. It changes the landscape, it changes you.

I am a sixty one year old carpenter who has painted all his life without any lessons.
I do abstracts, mainly in acrylic, don't use brushes, just bits of paper, rubber bands, feathers or anything else that strikes my fancy. I like to work flat and wet, allowing the paint to seek it's own course. I call my theme,"edge". I try to get it between abstract and concrete.

When did you first know you were an artist?

When I was nine, my mom brought home an abstract painting. I went to my room and slashed a green crayon up and down and said to her,"Look, Mom, modern grass." She flipped out and I have been painting ever since.
